Water Meter Installation
Water Meter Grant Application Update
The SRD submitted a $2.4 million grant application in the fall of 2018 to install water meters for all residents on the Electoral Area D water system. Universal water meters provide greater information on water consumption and help identify any leaks in the water distribution system.
Unfortunately, the SRD received correspondence from the Ministry in late August 2019 that our project was not selected for funding under the ICIP – Environmental Quality Program. As stated in the correspondence “The program received significantly more applications than could be funded. This decision does not reflect on the importance of this project for your community, but rather the degree by which the program has been oversubscribed”. The SRD will continue to look for future grant opportunities to fund this significant project for Electoral Area D.
Water Meter Installation
Residents of Electoral Area D can pay $1,500 to have a water meter installed on their property and move to a metered rate to help prevent water loss and reduce consumption within the system. The minimum annual metered user fee is $480 for residential properties in 2019. Billings for metered properties are invoiced quarterly; the minimum residential quarterly user fee is $120 which allows up to 76 cubic meters, property owners who use over the allowance pay $1.56 per cubic meter used.
