Quadra RDA Community Course
Free Community Training – Post Disaster Rapid Damage Assessment
Saturday May 13, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
Quadra Island Recreation Centre at 970 West Road.
Why should you take this course? Let’s say there’s an earthquake. Your family drops, covers and holds on. Then after the shaking stops you calmy leave your home, but all your emergency supplies are still inside. Wouldn’t you benefit from the knowledge of being able to better understand if your home is safe enough to enter temporarily to retrieve your supplies.
This training will enable Quadra Island community members impacted by a disaster to more rapidly assess the safety of structures.
Space is limited to 60 participants
Learning Objectives Upon completion participants should be able to:
- Identify typical structural and non‐structural UNSAFE conditions in wood frame, masonry and concrete structures that would prevent safe occupancy following an earthquake or wind-storm.
- Identify high risk areas on buildings where motion could cause structural damage to wood frame, masonry and concrete structures.
- Identify general steps that can be taken to mitigate injuries and damage in non‐structural components of buildings.
